Dr. Gary Etting, O.D., F.C.O.V.D.
Dr. Gary L. Etting is a developmental optometrist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of vision problems that interfere with reading and learning. Board certified in vision development, he just recently celebrated his 41st year providing these speciality services to the public.
Dr. Etting is a past president of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (C.V.O.D.), a past member of the C.O.V.D. Exam Board, a founding member of the Sports Vision Section of the American Optometric Association, as well as a recent past chairman. He has published several papers on the efficacy of optometric vision therapy for strabismus and amblyopia. His work on visual development and visual sports enhancement has also been the subject of articles published in magazines such as Time, Equus, Cycle, Sports America and Plane and Pilot. Dr. Etting and one of his patients were also featured on a CNN special, which explained how vision problems are often misdiagnosed as learning disabilities, dyslexia and Attention Deficit Disorder.
In addition, Dr. Etting has been a featured speaker at many seminars across the United States, Europe and Australia dedicated to topics on visual development, as well as at statewide public and private school conferences. He has also served 6 optometry schools in the United States with associate and adjunct professor positions. Dr. Etting has been an adjunct professor at 7 different schools and is currently an adjunct at Western College of Optometry, Salus University, and Southern College of Optometry. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, 3 children, and 5 grandchildren.
Dr. Sandy Tran, O.D.
Dr. Sandy Tran, O.D. graduated with honors from Western University College of Optometry in Pomona, CA. During optometry school, Dr. Tran found a way to combine her passion for writing and vision therapy when she became the Senior Binocular Vision Journalist for the AOA- affiliated website, www.optometrystudents.com. There she wrote numerous articles on binocular vision to help students around the world stay current on new research.
Dr. Tran has done extensive research in binocular vision, including investigation of the accommodative system in college and graduate students and analysis of binocular dysfunction using the Convergence Insufficiency Symptoms Survey. Dr. Tran is a member of Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) and has participated in a mission trip to Peru where she provided eye care to hundreds of underprivileged Peruvians in Coya, Peru. She enjoys volunteer work and has participated in vision screenings at the Special Olympics in Long Beach, CA and the Horizon School for Cerebral Palsy in Livingston, New Jersey.
Dr. Tran has completed externships at The Villages VA in Ocala, FL and Braverman Eye Center in Hallandale, FL where she became proficient in treating ocular diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. She also completed an externship at Alderwood Vision Therapy Center in Seattle, Washington with a renowned leader in vision therapy, Dr. Nancy Torgerson.
After graduation, Dr. Tran went on to complete a rigorous year-long residency program with another renowned and internationally recognized leader in vision therapy, Dr. Leonard Press. During her residency, she treated children with learning disabilities, perceptual dysfunctions and reading-related problems. She also treated children and adults on the autism spectrum and traumatic brain injury patients. Dr. Tran held the position of National Liaison for the Optometric Extension Program, an international organization dedicated to the advancement of vision and the visual process. She has extensive experience in family eye care, with a specialty and passion for pediatrics, vision training and neuro-rehabilitation. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
Dr. Mark Park, O.D.
Kind-hearted and patient, Dr. Mark Park has been seeing patients in our office for the last 15 years. He graduated with Honors from Southern California College of Optometry. He enjoys seeing patients in the therapy room because he can see the benefits it has on a person’s life and how vision therapy “makes people better”. When he’s not spending time with his wife and daughter, he enjoys gardening and listening to classical music.
Karen Moore, A.B.O.C.
Positive, friendly, and devoted, Karen’s welcoming demeanor will make you feel right at home in our office. While Karen manages the busy front desk, she is also a certified optician, able to help our patients choose spectacles and contact lenses that fit their lifestyle. When she’s not spending time with her husband, Lynn, and their cats, she enjoys shopping and comedy writing and performing as a comedian on stage.
Ivette Huerta, C.O.V.T.
Sweet, caring, and thoughtful, Ivette is a certified vision therapist whose dedication to the office has lasted more than 10 years. You will see her all around the office with responsibilities at the front desk and in the therapy room. She is always willing to lend a helping hand. She enjoys encouraging her patients and is committed to seeing her patients succeed. In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her nephew and family.
Cindy Knapp, C.O.V.T.
Empathetic, caring, and knowledgeable, Cindy is our lead certified vision therapist who trains and teaches not only the therapists but the doctor externs at our office. She has over 25 years of experience in working with children with learning-related vision problems. She is a registered nurse, previously working with medical and surgical patients, and in the Open Heart Unit at Encino Hospital. In high school, she did vision therapy with Dr. Donald Getz, therefore she knows firsthand how much effort it takes to accomplish the vision tasks and dedicate time to the process. “I think that my favorite times are when a patient gets the “aha” moment of discovery. This truly is a journey of discovery that can have profound changes in a child or adult’s life. It is a joy to watch transitions take place”. Cindy has been married to her husband, Max, for 43 years and they have a daughter. In her spare time, she enjoys arts and crafts such as stained glass, jewelry making, and gardening.
Judy Hudson, A.B.O.C., C.O.V.T.
Fun-loving, enthusiastic, and easy-going, Judy is our certified optician who has over 40 years of experience in finding the best spectacles and contact lenses to fit your lifestyle. Born and raised in Wisconsin and committed to the Green Bay Packers, she moved to California and started working at the office in her teens. She received her certification for vision therapy and later became a certified optician. When she is not in the office, she is working on camera sets for special effect contact lenses for well-known television shows. She has participated in the Westside Thanksgiving Celebration for the last 10 years, an event that serves food and supplies for the homeless. In her free time, she likes to spend it with her family and three grandchildren, golfing, or in spin class at the gym.
Theresa Kean, C.O.V.T.
Kind-hearted, friendly and helpful, Theresa is a certified vision therapist who has over 28 years of experience working with patients with strabismus, amblyopia, convergence insufficiency, and other binocular deficiencies. She sees the high value it has in a person’s life and enjoys seeing the progress and success in her patients. She graduated from Cal State University, Northridge with a Bachelor’s in Psychology. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys the arts, music, movies, museums, and concerts.
Diane O’Brien, C.O.V.T.
Knowledgeable, personable, and pleasant, Diane has over ten years of experience as a certified vision therapist. She enjoys the challenge of problem-solving each patients’ particular visual needs through vision therapy. She received a Bachelor’s of Science and a Master’s in Nutrition and Dietetics from Cal State Northridge. She has been married for 21 years and has two daughters. In her spare time, Diane enjoys participating in a mystery reading club and ballroom dancing with her husband.
Sweet, friendly, and good-hearted, Nancy is our medical biller and coder who is always updated and knowledgeable on the most recent medical coding. She is always eager to help those in need and will answer any questions you may have. She is a loving mother to two daughters, and when she’s not spending time with her family, she enjoys outdoor activities such as rock climbing and camping in the mountains.
Outgoing and positive, Linda is our office manager who always loves to get to know our patients and make them feel comfortable. She previously worked as an international sales representative in the beauty and skincare industry. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her enjoys spending time with her grandchildren.
